A 40-year-old DeLand, Florida man was arrested and charged for leaving the scene of an accident that resulted in another man’s death on Thursday, June 29. The driver is alleged to have crashed into a motorcyclist at the intersection where Biscayne Boulevard crosses Flightline shortly before 4:13 p.m. that day. Officials believe that the 32-year-old biker died instantly on impact.
Upon their arrival at the accident scene, crash scene investigators immediately began analyzing the debris that was strewn about the intersection. In doing so, they determined that the motorist that had struck the motorcyclist had been driving a silver-colored vehicle at the time.
In speaking with witnesses at the scene, the investigators discovered that they had seen a similarly-hued vehicle with extensive passenger side damage flee the scene of the accident. They reported the vehicle was last seen driving west along Old Daytona Road.
It was soon after speaking with these witnesses that police were successful in locating a silver Mercedes four-door sedan with heavy passenger side damage. By running the vehicle’s tags, officers discovered that the car belonged to the suspect. He was soon located and placed under arrest.
The driver of the Mercedes was booked into the Daytona Beach’s Volusia County Branch Jail. He stands accused of having been involved in the hit-and-run. No bond was set in the case. The man may face additional charges given that the investigation is still ongoing.
